Hi, may soon be getting my hands on the Ask 1280 impression projector.
This is a beast of a projector (massive!), but from what i have seen of it, a very goood lcd projector for its age.
Its basically what you guys are building here, but a mass made one.
It sold in the 80's for $19,999, but im geting mine for a lot less i hope!
Basically its a high res 13" lcd screen with a 550 kw (?) lamp behind it.
Its only got 1500 hours on the clock, and lamps are meant to last 3000, but i just wanna know how much it will cost so i can figure that out for future usage.
So if anyone know where i can get sauch a lamp from, please let me know.
Ask are being very helpful (strange considering their name!) and its not stated by name in any documents ive found on net.
Ceers for your help guys, ill provide pictures when i get it!

Just ben poking around inside it alittle, and this would be perfect for you guys!
ouch!
ok, i will take photos of it intenally and exteranlly for you, if you can find one of these (broken or whatever) id get it.
As a box to put your own lcd in, it would be perfect, as a place to install your own lights, great again!
Just discovered tho....
Lens straight after the lamp is cracked, anyone know where may stock a replacement, pref in London???
The fresnel is a bit burnt (I presume where the unit has been turned off, without letting the fans cool it first as instructed.) Again, anyone kno where to get such replacements cheaply?
Well i think i will buy this, there is a line across screen at present (from crack) and a darker spot in top corner (from burn) but its not too notice able, and less work than building my own!
cheers again

OK>>>
Ok, found the bulb now.
575W Metal Halide Lamp
£378.50 plus post (£14)
http://www.solutionsaudiovisual.com/products.asp?catid=51
this is a very good bulb (from what i have seen in the ask 1280, and has a crazy life of 3000hrs! which works out at about 13p an hour.... cheap really.
Very bright for what it is, but im ssure this is also down to good optics within projector
£387 ex vat at http://www.accurate.plc.uk/corporate/
Just looking for a cheaper source now (?) if its possible. If its cheaper but with lower life, then not bothered, want a lamp with comparable life really, as the 13p an hour figures sound FINE tro me!
Also, if anyone can help sourcing the fresnel and the lens from the unit, then that would be great, product numbers etc, and any other info would be really great, in the mean time ill contiun searching myself.
I'm sure all the parts from this unit would be very helpfull to anyone wanting to make a DIY projector, shame not more around second hand!

100" tv
HI,
not given up on the 100" tv thing, still going strong, and still redesigning the site at he mo, adding new plans at mo.... slowly... no changes online yet tho ( www.DIYprojectionTV.tk ) ad totally free when its sorted and stuff, but not at moment.
loads of new ideas and stuff at my msn group http://groups.msn.com/diyprojectiontv
still going strong!
as for the image from my projector, its nothing like a realy projector, but highly watchable, and sitll the best £5 ive ever spent.
Attached is an image submitted by a user of mine, to show his projector working as a rear-projector, so obviously the image is brighter if used as a front projector, and on a good screen.
But good i think for £5 and a card board box!
cheers for links, guess i will have to bite the bullet on those, but still got over 1000hrs left on it, and just waned to know really....
its the lens and fresnel id like to get sorted first, as they are stoping the image being perfect. (tho it is damn fine)
