I think i've decided to build the "not-so-DIY" Hypex amps.
I've never done any building before so help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
I've read a lot on the net and heard a lot of good things about the Hypex UcD180HG and UcD400HG amp modules.
I'd like to build up an amp using 2 modules (dual mono i think it's called?) to run my front speakers.
The first thing to decide is if i should go the 180W or 400W modules. I currently have the seas idunn kit as my fronts Idunn which has an 8 ohm woofer rated to 80W long term handling (250W short term) and a 6ohm tweeter rated to 55W long term handling (150W short term).
With these specs, i figure the 180's would be ok. But i will be building possibly a 3 way set of front speakers soon which i guess will need more power so was thinking of doing with the 400's. 400's wouldnt damage the current speakers i have would they? The datasheet says they are rated to 240W at 8ohms.
My other question is with the power supply's. Hypex sell the SMPS1200A400 power supplies and i have seen people use either one or two to run 2 amp modules. Is there much benefit running two power supply's if one can handle the 2 amps?
Any links to similar projects would be great, i have found a couple but the more info the better.

I would go with the 400W modules. They are 400W into 4-ohm and just 210W into 8-ohm. This will give you more headroom. It won't be a problem as long as you don't get absolutely silly with the volume control. If finances allow, I would even go for the 700W modules, or even better, the NC400 modules. But if you go for the NC400, use their dedicated PSUs.

I'll stick with the 400's then. The NC400's looks great but way out of my price range as i want to eventually have a 4 or 5 channel amp.
At the risk of asking a dumb question, what do the HxR regulators do and is it worth the extra $30 to get the models with these already fitted?

I've decided to start with a 2 channel but will build in a bigger chassis. Then i can go to 5 channels when the funds allow.
Just wondering, can the Hypex SMPS1200A400 handle 5 of these UcD400's? I saw a picture with a setup like this here: http://avforum.no/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=78888&d=1304957093
If this is ok to do, i will find a chassis to fit the 5 amps, power supply and a soft starter.
