I got this LCD screen really cheap. It was for diebold ATM mechine. from every bit information I can collect, I think it uses a 12.1" sharp LQ121S1DG11 screen, and has a seperated controller with a VGA port, which means easy disasmble. It requires a 12V DC power but I have never seen a connector like this (attached picture). So anyone can help me to find out its polarity? so I can use wires to connect it to my computer's 12V 😀

Hummm ya know it looks familiar But I cant recall where I have seen that, can you take the Item apart to see the wire colors?, remember red is positive and black is Negative. Hope that helps some.
the connector itself soldered on the PCB board directly. But there are 12V out Red/black wires on the board, so I used a tester to find out which prone is connected to red. fortunately after I connected power, it worked.
The LCD itself is 800x600, works at 72Hz. after play with it for a while, it works fine now. the display is corner to corner, no pixel dancing anymore, and I can adjust brightness and contrast by Powerstrip. But there is onething not right: the color. the color lask details. Seems that the number of color is too low. When I display a picture, there are blocks of colors without transition between them. Looks like when you set the windows color to 256 colors insead of 16bits. I believe this screen can do better than that, I just need to find out how. Could anyone give me a hint?
btw, my OS is windows XP. The system takes the monitor as MS "default monitor". And I just installed Powerstrip ( don't know how to use it in full power yet.)

I wouldnt be suprised if it is only 256 or 512 colors if this was sourced for use in an ATM....its cheaper for Dibold to buy lcd controllers capable of a limited color field....this panel is rather common in laptops and is capable of more colors thatn 256/512 if mated to the appropriate controller
I actually set it to 256 color, but there was no display at all at this setting. I would like to try something like 512, 2M, or 16.7M color, but these options are not available.
when I open the color wheel in a photo editing software, the color is not continouse. from what I saw, I believe it(the controller+screen) has more than 256 color (but not 16bits colors neither). now I need to find out a way to display more color.

I checked the color wheel again. It seems to me that some groups of color are not display right on the screen. I will attach some pictures later when I get chance.
Can you point some of us in the direction of where you got this screen? It would be an interesting toy to play with

It turns out that when I was checking up the screen, I didn't put the signal cable (the flex brown cable between controller and the panel) back properly 😱 . So some signal were not transfered right. After re-sit the cable, everything works fine now. I have to set the color to 32bits to fully show the details. It is a wonderful little screen.
eebasist: I bought this screen from eBay. I will email the seller where he get it.
So the monitor came with everything Uncluding a VGA input? Only thing you had to rig was a power supply, how much did you pay for it? This seems interesting, cant wait to see if the seller knows of more, or has more of them.
just got an email back from the seller:
It has the VGA port and a 12V power connector. I paid $50 + shipping. Very reasonable. I will post some pictures later.
It was actually given to me by a family member who works for Diebold. It was one of their screens that just never made it into an ATM machine.. Ill see if I can track down some more

Here is a picture of it on my desk:
with case open:
it is very easy to take apart and put on an OHP. Took me 10' to take it apart:
and after removed a couple of light difusers (is the darker one a polarizer?)
I got a 'naked' lcd panel:
Now, my windows desktop on OHP:
and the Matrix reloaded trailer:
Another one:
Seems overall brightness is not enough, especially on the top of screen:
More pictures are here . the screen is a "dapper" projection screen in a windowless conference room. all lights were off. F2.0, shutter 1/4s. projected images were 3-4 f wide.
Now, I have put it back together. It will be my monitor in the office for a while until I get the better light source. ( I got 575W DE bulbs from YWH, but need to wait for the ballast 🙁 )
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Looks great But honestly when did ATM's come with Full color lcd screens,? All of the atm's around here have small 6 inch monocrome lcd screens.

The atm I am using has a tiny color lcd 🙂.
search for 'diebold atm' you will see a bunch, or 'panobrite' for the one that looks really like it.

That is fantastic. One of the best come-ups I've heard in a while. With the VGA input, that is a full-fledged LCD monitor for $50. Good job.
I found a datasheet for the model you listed and it does say that it is meant for banking terminals. Its 256k colors and has a 300:1 contrast ratio. Very impressive for what it is.
id of power conn
The power connector is from Molex. Not easy to be in small quantities, but they do give out samples (at least the distributor in The Netherlands).
