this is my first ever attempt at designing a speaker.
i'm wanting a two way floorstander centered around de10 cd, mated with possibly me10. passive crossover.
i'm dead set on de10, and the crossover being passive.
the rest are flexible.
i'm thinking either 6inch woofer loaded in a frugal horn type enclosure, or 8 inch in a super scoop, both with the horn on top, outside the enclosure.
i would not want to stretch the budget higher than $100ish per woofer.
sensitivity is not my main goal. rather, i'm willing to trade some for solid bass extension. it's OK if the speaker ends up being 80ish db, as long as i get the sweet dispersion of the horn. 😀
which woofers should i look into?

With a recommended 2.5 kHz XO point, one ideally needs a mid-bass woofer that's ~flat to 5 kHz, so a ~4" driver is what I'd use. I don't keep up with available drivers/pricing, so check out what works in the Frugal horn in this size and hopefully in your price range. If you don't care about good off axis response, then go with up to an 8" to get 'fuller' mids, mid-bass, more bass.

well i really want to build fusion 8 from diysoundgroup- the price and sourcing of the drivers are just perfect for where i am (korea), but i can't rightly ask them for the crossover schematic, and also it'd be more fun trying something similar that could turn out to be better 😉
