hello,
i am designing a 3-way classic with an amt tweeter, a 5inch mid, and now im looking for a 9" or 10"woofer. here are my design requirements:
i will have max 30-35l for the chamber, so must work in small chamber
at least 100W
is there a driver that will perform well in such a small enclosure? i dont want an extra subwoofer, so would be nice if it goes low and takes a lot of power. planning to cross it somewhere between 200 and 400Hz. full digital/dsp, so sensitivity doesnt matter, hard or soft cone, also its ok if its expensive, other components are high-end.
thanks for any suggestions,
cheers,
lisette
edit: maybe this one? Tymphany NE265W-04

I have a pair of 12" Dayton RSS315HF-4's in 35 liter sealed boxes (calculated Q is 0.73). While generally marketed as 'sub' drivers, they play smoothly up to 1000 Hz. I cross them at 250, and use a Linkwitz transform to extend their response (-3dB @ 30 near field) and EQ to tame the inevitable room modes. They cover the "goes low" and "handles power" requirements for sure.
The Dayton RS270 might be a more sane choice, more efficient, and a better fit into 35 liters if you don't want to use as much EQ.

These are all good.
The Dayton Designer Series 270s are good in small boxes, both fiber and aluminum, also the Peerless dome-shaped 10" sub.
But the 10" Peerless SLS(830668,mentioned above) is an easy choice for value and ease of use.
Your problem may be too many choices, rather than too few.
So, a good, not a bad, problem.

thanks, these are some awesome suggestions! im not done simulating them all in 30L, but I think most of them would be suitable...
my fav so far is the Volt B2500.1. not sure why, but ive never heard this manufacturer and i like my bass fast, tight and analytical. comments suggest this driver might be just right for me... im not in a hurry though, so keep those suggestions rolling 😉
edit: that Seas CA26RFX Mms of 36g also looks very interesting!!! just wish it would take a tiny bit more power, the system will probably be abused quite a bit...

Iirc Jeff Bagby / Java’s Shadzi used the WO24P-4 is a 30-35l box with the SB29 NRX Passive radiator in his Helios speaker. Full build and explanation on the Facebook diy speaker building site or on the Meniscus site.

Considering an Active DSP solution..
Test Bench: The L26ROY 10” Subwoofer from SEAS | audioXpress
Vas is low (in the "30's")
Stroke is high, with high linearity.
Distortion is low.
Good to 400 Hz (..and actually higher than that, but I wouldn't recommend it).
It also has a good passive radiator on-offer if desired: Seas SL26R.

I would take a look at the Sica 10 S 3 CP. Actually, I would rather put it in about 40 liters of BR, but 30 liters is also possible if you don't have such high demands on the lower cutoff frequency, which in this case would be around 45 Hz.
With kind regards

This.
If you don't want to add in an extra subwoofer then you really need a subwoofer as your bass driver.
As has been mentioned a fair few of them can be used up pretty high. If you're using a DSP, and have plenty of power, then all decent sub drivers can be made to work in smaller sealed cabinets.
The 23W/4557T00 would do well. Its very insensitive but goes low.

Test Bench: Scan-Speak 32W/4878T00 Subwoofer | audioXpress
Test Bench: Wavecor SW223BD03 8.75-Inch High XMAX Subwoofer | audioXpress
Three different subs. Three different sizes. All would suit the bottom of a DSP three way.
