Hello I'm Bazza
I've just bought the above amplifier and really looking forward to having allot of fun playing around with it however, I have never owned or used a quad amplifier. No user manual. How do I connect a source, adding speakers/amps and all the other amazing options available.

Hi Bazza!
Unless you own a four-channel cartridge and a collection of CD-4 records your quadraphonic receiver will be restricted to stereo use, in which case connections will be pretty standard.
I haven't located a user manual for the 5446, but here's one for the 5456 which may not be too far off the mark:

And here's a helpful review of the 5446: https://www.gammaelectronics.xyz/audio_01-1974_jvc.html

Thanks, funny I was reading the exact material last night. I'm really looking forward and having some fun with this one.
I read everything I could about the jvc, got "fantastic " connected speakers and was just going to play GM. Switched it on wow! Volume bearley on if zero was 7 I got it to 8 1/2 and for 3 seconds the sound was powerful then ...no sound WTF??!...Lights come on relay clicks in all the lights work. Checked the fuse and it was fine.Hi Bazza!

I feel like crying..
I've missed out on some great hifi this week, was hoping the jvc would occupy my mind. 💀🥳😢😭😱
Well, that's tough titty, Bazza!
But, let's face it, your Compatible Discrete 4 (DC-4) receiver is around 50 years old.
Perhaps you made the mistake of switching the receiver on prior to it undergoing a thorough health inspection.
We all know that CD-4 is obsolete, and in your case doubly so!!
If it's sympathy you're looking for, I'll be happy to oblige:
As a consolation, you can learn all about CD-4 here: https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Compatible_Discrete_4#:~:text=Compatible Discrete 4, also known as Quadradisc or,technology were released on LP during the 1970s.

Eureka!!
Firstly all my gear gets a once over, its like a gentle caress with switches and dials. Get everything set just how I want it before switching on. She wasn't in the mood after all those miles travelling. In this case it was me calling the shots! and so I had to RIP her clothes off!
I bit of steel shorting out....thanks above
This was serviced a few months ago, it's so clean like new

The "Matrix 1" setting decodes SQ AND generates a quad field from a stereo source.
I recommend you create an account at hifiengine and download the manual. I just did.

I saw that link during my earlier search.
Unfortunately, you must have an account to download files from the HiFi Engine library and the facility to register has been withdrawn.

I believe that even account holders have had difficulty downloading files lately, as evidenced by a thread you'll find in diyAudio.

Just had a quick listen, this jvc definitely has a sound I can call individual. That's not a bad thing IMP it lays it all down. For correctness in 2way stereo the amps are naw strapped, 4 become 2. SQ definitely full...I will listen more. I like it
The one thing I like a lot about the Marantz quad receivers is their variable ambience control. Vario-Matrix using the Dimension knob on the front panel.
I find that feature unique and is very fun. I got a 4415 with the wired remote.
I also got an Akai AS980 and for all of its 747 front panel, it lacks the vario-matrix. BTW, I also have the wired remote for the Akai. ;-)
Your JVC doesn't have provisions for a remote... which is a bummer... OTOH that likely saves you YEARS of patiently searching and waiting for one to hit the market.

There is the option for a wired remote, it's at the 2o'clock position from the power switch.
This is my first quad amplifier. I have many speakers to connect and have fun with, looking forward. Currently my ears are enjoying vintage Sony,Trio, cyrus and valve Pioneer sound. Speakers are vintage Mission and big Transmission line. The very small too e.g Visonik David 50 (incredible) and Pioneer...honestly these small speakers are the most amazing sound I have ever heard!!!!
If you ever get a chance to buy go for it...

Aaah.. you're right about the remote... I was looking through the back panel.
So the part number is JVC 5911... Good luck hunting.... it's actually worthwhile having one.
I wonder too if the Akai and Marantz will fit. It looks to me like they all have a similar connector and identical controls.. a joystick and a volume. The Marantz also has a switch, but I'm not gonna hunt in the Closet Museum Of Audio to figure it out... I'd have to get off my chair and walk eight steps...

EDIT... DANG! You're in Europe, here's one in Germany

RUN DON'T WALK... get it.

It would be nice to know what you think of the jvc compared to the lot you have in "closet of museum of audio" ?
