Help, I Want to Build a Set of Active Speakers and Ditch my Amp Altogether

I need some recommendations for enclosure plans, drivers and most importantly the amplifier modules.Id like to spend no more than $4000.00.
Feel free to chime in if you think I‘m making the wrong move, I just want to consolidate space and have a less intrusive looking audio system.

For a quick and easy way of gauging the max SPL’s you want to listen at, simply crank up your current system to the loudest level you listen at. Then measure the peak SPL’s at 1m from one of the speakers. Right between the mid and tweeter. If you don’t have a measurement mic, or SPL meter, apps are available for iPhones. But if you’re gonna go down this road you’ll want a measurement mic at least this good:

Yes I agree that a sub-enclosure is ideal. However electronics can be made nowadays to be far less prone to distortions while being used in environments of high vibration. And when this is realized, far better sound at less cost is possible with active speakers. In comparison with traditional box and cable systems.

I assume you are looking for a fullrange based speaker since you posted in this forum? If so, I can highly recommend the 10F/RS225 FAST/WAW speaker that I designed. It can be implmented with an active XO or a passive XO (provided in thread). You have a compact sealed standmount or a floorstanding TL that reaches down to 30Hz. It sounds great and you can see the testimonials of many who have built it. You could put a small Class D amp inside one and it would work fine. The newer Class D amps with DSP built in can be used as an active 2-way with one stereo amo board.

Unfortunately, the image links are all broken since DIYA migrated to the new site so all the linked images on Post 1 are broken.

Does sound interesting, I’ll check it out.

Yes, if cost is no object for you. The Purifi is currently one of the lowest THD Class D amps out there. TPA3255 amps are also great sounding and a bit more economical. But even TPA3116 sounds fine if all you need is 30w or so.

Also Class AB amps modules based on TDA7293 are superb sounding if well implemented.

The Purifi modules interest me because of their efficiency. especially within a sealed enclosure.
