Help from the Finns, Chydenius?

Anders Chydenius was an 18th C Finnish philosopher who formulated economic thought and the importance of "liberty" in any effective economic system. His work predates Adam Smith, and doesn't seem influenced by the French and English leading lights of his time.

Little of his work has been translated into English. What is available is terribly expensive. If any of our Finnish friends see his work translated in one of the bookstores let me know.

Very interesting guy, the cheapest translation I found was $122.00 I see what you mean.

If you guys are interested in economic history, I have a book called 'The Long Road to the Industrial Revolution' by Prak, van Zanden et al.

It looks at Europe's development from about 1000AD up until the 20th century, and also compares it to other regions (notably the Arab world, China and India). It turns out that economically speaking, the European Middle Ages were one of the most dynamic in terms of economic growth. A very, very interesting read. If you want a copy (PDF) PM me.

Hello jackinnj,

Anders Chydenius is not very well known in Finland at his texts are very hard to find. Those are probably available only on few public libraries and university archives. You could ask from University of Turku or Åbo akademi if there is any way of getting access to these texts.

His most important texts are written in swedish so Sweden could be a better source for translated texts.
