Help for Threshold Stasis 2

Hi All,

I have a Stasis 2 amp in for repairs and it was mentioned to me that upgrading the large Caps might be in order, my question is what would i replace them with... Capacity, voltage err brands 😀 The ones currently installed are original.

Would it also be a good idea to use smaller poly caps to filter the large electrolytic and what value would you recommend.

thanks in advance

Alan

Voltage - same or a little higher - don't go much higher in voltage as it will limit the increase in capacitance you can get in the same physical size of capacitor

Capacitance -same or higher - usually double or triple the original value sounds nice if the bridge rectifier and soft start /on switch can handle the higher inrush current -maybe look at a soft recovery bridge rectifier too.

I went from 150,000 uf to 700,000 uf in an old Krell chassis with Borbely All Fet installed now. Bass control and smoothness to the sound improved, low level detail too.

5 to 10 uf in quality film bypasses - MIT, Rel, Wonder, V - Cap, expensive, but good - other brand choices as well - also a 01.uf in parallel.

Brands - Panasonic, Nichicon, United Chemcon

Can types with screws- Cornell Doublier, Sprague, Mallory - although these types haven't had the capacitance increase in the same size can the way - Mundorfs are great, but expensive

No unknown Asian brand caps - cheap, but questionable reliability
