Help finding probes for an Iwatsu SS-5702 20mhz Oscilloscope

A friend of mine got me an old Iwatsu SS-5702 20mhz 2-channel scope to play and learn on. I am having a hard time finding probes for it though. The scope that I have has Binding posts instead of BNC's for the probe inputs.Most of the photos and information I have been able to find on the SS-5702 shows that there are BNC's where my binding posts are. There is no information regarding probe type in the user manual I found online except calibration procedure.

Does anybody have any advice on possible probes choices,adapters or other options?

As you are seeing most probes are BNC. Why not replace the Jap sockets with BNC.

Google "BNC-banana" adapter to see if that will do the job. Then you can get regular probes for your scope. Good luck.

The thought had crossed my mind. Are the BNC's then just grounded through the case or would there be some form of input signal grounding? I have yet to open it up and peak at what would be required. I assume that the binding posts are isolated but again I have not investigated that far just yet.

As far as the adapters I tried to search but found most were the wrong gender and although I could probably use a coupler or gender changer. I would prefer not to go that route.

I have both gender adaptors on my bench. One of my scopes is the Tenma with function generator. The genny has BNC output, but I have an adaptor on that for dual banana female. I use one vertical channel to monitor output of amps a lot. I have a bnc to bnc cable into that channel, at teh free end I have a bnc to banana mnale adaptor so the cord can plug into my speaker patch bay.

Both gender adaptors are readily available.

I saw those adapters in my searching. The problem is that this scope has single binding posts in place of the normal BNC plugs.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I'm no expert but it looks like that scope has a separate ground, right below the bottom left of your screen.

The adapters shown earlier would work, the only time you need the ground on normal oscilloscope probes is on sensitive timing circuits.

I am normally not a huge fan of multiple adapters/connections if it can be helped. I could use the double banana to female BNC adapters with a banana to banana test lead between the scope and the probe but am not sure how bad it would degrade the signal. If at all. Or, can this be compensated for with the calibration function? If you all feel that this is non-issue then I will do just that and begin my scope education. As those dual adapters are more accessible and cheaper to boot. Banana to banana test cables are also easy to come by on the cheap.

Jsixis; That is exactly what I was looking for in the beginning. The only ones I found up to this point however were Male BNC.

You should have a calibration point you touch your probe to (looks like it may be on lower left). That will give you a nice square wave, you adjust the compensation on the probe till you get the squarest square wave possible. The probe is then compensated for all the connections.
