One try to get the old EC schematics from
The Sandstrm Audio Site
about the webarchive
Internet Archive - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I carried out - but unfortunately without success:

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://home.online.no/~tsandstr/AudioStartsHere.htm
I choice the oldest:

Schematics
http://web.archive.org/web/20010425025850/home.online.no/~tsandstr/schematics_2.htm
http://web.archive.org/web/20010425025850/home.online.no/~tsandstr/schematics_2.htm
about this previous URL are the schematics you need.

http://web.archive.org/web/20010423...andstr/later_designs.htm#Preamplifier of 1982

by the power amp I get one schematic because the jepg file goes open:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010423015359/home.online.no/~tsandstr/later_designs.htm
The modified amplifiers
http://web.archive.org/web/20010421030959/home.online.no/~tsandstr/a_strange_one.htm

Perhaps one of the members can contact the webarchive to get the right instructions to download the jpg-files. I am not computer expert and thus I cannot say, why in some cases the jpg files goes open and in certainly other cases (like the EC preamp schematics) they don't goes open.

ec1 crackling noise in phono stages

Hello,
If I remember correctly, the phono stage is in a-class. That means that the current running is higher than in normal ab circuits. This is one thing. The other thing is heat. Now, heat and high(er) currents are not friends with unclean soldered, or incomplete soldered joints. When heating up things expand. Over the years, and the ec1 is 'pre-historic' because it was sold as pre-amp for the Ampliwire 100. and were .. "hastly produced" I think it was 1980 or so .. 30 years is a long time.
Now in more human tekst:
Get that board out and if there are electrolyts on, it is a good time to replace them now. None is in the signal way so you don't need fancy, expensive ones, but don't buy crap (the cheapest). If you can get your hands on fresh transistors get them. Be gentle with the boards, they are not the best quality. Get your soldering iron and re-flow every solder joint with a little fresh solder. Solder properly, don't heat up the components. This will solve your problems. But, hey there's always a catch, it could still be there. In that case you have to clean the tracks and tin them all. I have not seen problems anymore after doing that ... 30 years is along time :)

Hi
I also have an electrocompaniet with the torroidal transpformer replaced and the original potentiometer is missing. If someone can help me to provide the parameters of the original potentiometer so I can buy one like the orriginal please do.
Thanks guys , great forum here...
Alex
