Help downloading from Hifiengine website

I agree that he has a strange sense of ownership... or maybe, he's just touchy about the cost of hosting the site.

Over the years he has maintained a tight ship on the downloads, limiting how many can be downloaded within a day, I think it was three max.

Perhaps, as usual with such things, some unscrupulous agents abused it, perhaps creating multiple accounts ( I think that was what I read ) and bypassing his minimums.

The site is pretty archaic in its design... so perhaps he should either put some ads in it or go to a subscription ( donation ) mode.

IMHO, the Internet is wrecked by people who thing everything should be FREE. The flow of information should be FREE, but users should be aware that there are COSTS to keep the information flow.

As usual, CHEAP PEOPLE and DISHONEST PEOPLE wreck the experience for the vast majority of us.

Hopefully, he'll figure it out because his site has become a treasure trove of information about audio equipment.

BTW, how come some of the usual suspects in these forums don't have a shield by their user names? Huh?

Hi Ray, all,
He does have a right to have users of the site abide by his wishes (or do not use his services). He pays for bandwidth, file storage and offers it free to those who need it. So although he doesn't own the material, there is a cost to him to provide it all. The watermark only allows him to track his files, he isn't laying ownership.

He was very clear about redistribution.

This is his baby. Maybe he might sell it, or shut it down. I somehow think he might have a problem with someone else profiting off his work. I don't have any relationship with him, nor do I know his name. I did communicate with him a touch and understand clearly where he is coming from.

I hope he finds the desire to continue his site in some form. I found it extremely useful, and it has helped me out of a few jams in the past.

Well I guess advert revenue, donation, memberships, pay per use, all have there pro's and con's .
As a website owner, and admin of several other sites, I fully understand and appreciate the costs involved from ground up to running costs.
I also understand some of the issues surrounding the legal aspects of accepting or wanting payment for just the webhosting and data transfer, when that can be seen as promoting piracy or benefiting from said activities.
As soon as IP rights are mentioned, the world shudders in fear and argument.
The cost of developing a product, that can now be copied and reproduced at cheaper prices from other factories is I think a massive part of this new game of hide and seek.
Life was so much simpler when the devices came with a little envelope inside that contained the diagrams.

Edit, oh and lets please ignore those companies that grind the numbers of the parts within their devices.
And yes, I've worked for companies that not only did that, but also instructed me to do such things.
