.
Some background.
I've spent a large amount of time spaning pre covid time up to a few months ago building a tube preamp. I built it from scratch. I even fabricated the chassis. I put my all into it. During this process I had many problems and hurdles. I turned to diyaudio for help. I had a thread dealing with the problems. I got a lot of advice, but found it hard making advancements. I started messaging a member from that thread, off thread who was very kind and knowledgeable. No conflicting opinions seemed like a better way forward. However after months of continuous troubleshooting, trying to deal with noise (hum) also a blown muses volume control with the help of the diyaudio member I started to loose steam.
I hit what seemed a progress wall. We discussed it and he agreed to have a look at it in person. So I shipped it out to him.
This is when things started to go sour.
He didn't have any proper means of actually testing it. No proper workbench. Questionable test equipment according to him own words. He complained the house had an improper ground. He'd have to possibly repair and mod his brother's Dynaco stereo first in order to troubleshoot. Thinking about it now, I wondered why under those difficult circumstances he agree to have a look at it?
Then there was a myriad of reasons that came up why he couldn't work on it. Days quickly turned to weeks which turned to months. No progress as far as i could tell on my preamp. He went as far as having a theory, but that was it. I let him know that i'm not in a rush, but if he was never going to actually work on it, it would never get finished. Responses to my emails slowed. Eventually coming to a virtual hault. In his last response
He complained about me demanding every spare minute of his free time.
Before I sent it out to him he originally told me he was retired and aside from a soccer match on Sundays he didn't have anything else happening.
That turned out to be the furthest thing from the truth.
Feb 4th I ask for my pre back. I offered to pay for the shipping. He said ok to that, but since then he's ignored most of my messages.
It's been been more than 4 months since I've asked for him to send my preamp back.
This obviously was a mistake. I'd like my preamp back. What can I do here guys?
Any advice? I really want my preamp back!

Post the name of this member. The moderators will have a big problem with such behavior,
and can take measures to encourage a proper resolution.

Well it has crossed my mind.
He's in Roeland Park KS and I'm in Toronto Ontario Canada. 16 hours away.

Unfortunately, there's no certainty that you would recover it or even find the person at home,
if the address you have is even correct. It could be for a friend or elsewhere.
Of course, there could be a benign reason, poor health, etc, but doubtful after such a long time.
Be sure to keep the shipping receipt as evidence that you did send it to him.
Post his name here, and also ask the moderators to help. If his every post is followed by one or
several members asking where your preamp is, or if he is no longer allowed to post until the matter
is resolved, he may finally get around to returning it to you.

It's sad when people agree to share a project and later it falls apart before the task is finished. This reminds me of Upwork where I used to freelance. Upwork manages simple contracts between clients and freelances. Usually I would write code for clients. Sometimes they would send hardware. One sent me a 500Watt power amp (from Australia) which he wanted to have wireless control. He lost interest or was too busy to remake the internal PCBs before the job was finished. The Amp remained in my locker for many months until I contacted him. He sent funds to pay for return shipment. So the job closed without any bad feelings.
This has not much too do with your Op but I would say that shared projects are risky without an impartial third party to maintain civility.

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. It shouldn't have.
I can certainly relate to being too busy, but I've never been so busy that I couldn't box up an amp and ship it ... or respond to an email. That said, life happens. Illness happens.

By placing @ before his moniker like this: @Rick PA Stadel he will be notified that he has been "mentioned". Perhaps he will respond to the thread or to you privately after seeing it and be more cooperative. Hopefully you'll get your preamp back.
im not retired but still just as lazy. lol
ohhh Rick... just send it back.
or fix it, you can do it, you can do it.
I hired some cheerleaders for encouragement. Everyone...
1, 2 , 3 lets go Rick , lets go Rick, lets go Rick woo hooo yayyyy

@ whitedragon
I also have a preamp to recover, can you send me some cheerleaders please? 😍
Although we are sorry to hear of this situation, diyAudio has no liability and is not able to become involved in private matters between individual members.
The same applies to Swap Meet and Vendor transactions where all dealings are between those parties involved. That is covered in the site RULES
As this thread is in public view @Rick PA Stadel will ensure Rick gets a notification linking to this post.
Good luck and we hope you get a satisfactory outcome.

When people are retired it's hard to distinguish bad behaviour from just being down in the dumps and unable to get going. A lot of people get stuck and lose their motivation, putting things off forever. They don't like to face up to the fact that this is happening in reality and may even resent being badgered constantly for action and results. I've seen this happen to one or two old friends, who can e.g. take a year and a half to apply for a new passport. Unthinkable for someone younger and on their game. But it happens.
So is this bad behaviour or just endless procrastination? To the victim it's bad behaviour of course, unreasonable, inexcusable. To the perpetrator, who knows what's going on inside their heads.
I like White Dragon's approach...... Come on Rick, get going!!!

Giving advice is simple - just sit in a chair and type. Meaningful motivation and action is a whole other ball game.

I just can't make my mind up
It probably helps to monitor this member here and his recent activities so we know he's still alive and to pester him or respond to his comments in any thread and tell him to return the item!
