I need help choosing an 18in driver. they will be going in a peavey sp 118x enclosure. i have been looking for days and i can't come up with anything. my band has given me a $250 per driver limit. any recomendations?
Don't know what country you are in or continent you are on. In Arizona, tubesandmore.com has Peavey low rider 8 ohm 18" for $190 and Black Widow 8 ohm 18" for $160 Speaker - 18" Peavey Black Widow, 8 Ohm, 1801-8 LT BW | Antique Electronic Supply LLC Freight and use tax is extra. Your local Peavey dealer consolidates his freight, he might be able to beat it. Particularly if you live in a house and pay UPS residence surcharge. This won't fit a USPS priority mail box.
You've got the best, IMHO, why fool around. I want a 118 but I'd have to build a 32' organ stop to drive it. 118's never show up on craigslist, they must be keepers.

thanks for the reply. i've been using the 118s for the last ten years and its been great. they recently blew and i didn't know if it would be a good time to upgrade them
They are Peavey cabs, and I sure would just stick with the Peavey drivers. They work very well. In fact we often use Peavey woofers as replacements in other cabs, like Mackie subwoofers, as more reliable than the originals.
If your old woofers are Black Widows that you have blown, then just get new baskets for them, that costs half what complete drivers cost, and the result is a like-new driver.
