Greetings.
Well I am now the proud owner of a very heavy set of Peavey HiSys3 loudspeakers. They really weigh all of the 56kg. Thanks for the extra push and help.
I've had a quick look inside and there are a few areas for improvement. Please feel free to make any suggestions.
(1) The main enclosure is lined inside with BAF, simply stapled to the sides. I have loads of 10mm felt which I can glue (and staple) to the sides. Useful?
(2) The midrange sealed enclosure is not lined or stuffed with anything bizarrely. I can line with felt and add some BAF.
(3) Indeed, the wiring is rubbish thin cord. I can replace this with something much more substantial.
(4) The electrolytic caps could probably do with replacing/upgrading just for good measure, due to their age.
(5) The most significant immediate issue is that a previous owner has replaced one of the midrange units with an Eminence Alpha 6A. It is an 8ohm unit with frequency range of 95hz to 6Khz, but the sensitivity is only 93.6dB which seems low for this system sensitivity of 101dB.
The original Peavey units are unavailable, but it would be very useful to know the T&S parameters, so that I can match them as closely as possible. Any ideas? I've emailed Peavey USA.
How do they sound? I've only had a brief listen at the eBay vendor's house, but they were definitely fullrange and seemed quite balanced across the frequencies. However they were in a small shed and only two feet apart... I have just ordered some Speakon cables so I will be able to have a proper listen at home when they arrive. Maybe the Eminence unit is not too far off match.

Listen to the speakers, compare them (mono signal, turn balance or channel volume). If the mid level is indeed too low with the Eminence, you can go for the Eminence Alpha-6C, which is 4 Ohm. You gain 3dB that way. You have to change the crossover though (double the capacitors, halve the coils values).
The woofers might supply part of the mids.
I have seen this (fullrange playing woofer) with Zeck PA15/3 - heavy old style 15"/6"/T beasts for which the Eminence Alpha 6 is also used as a mid replacement.
Might be just specs........

You are correct, the woofers must supply some of the mids.
I have been in touch with Peavey, who told me that the SICA Z004050 was the correct replacement.
SICA 6 M1 1,5 CS 4? 200W MIDRANGE 6'' - 6 inch - artsound.gr e-shop
The Sica midrange is only 93.3dB sensitivity. The Eminence Alpha 6A is a little higher at 94dB, but it is an 8ohm driver, when the design calls for a 4ohm driver.
Having had a chance to listen to both, I like the Eminence better. It seems to have more detail.

There's your answer, then.
Feel free to shoot me a PM about doing some measurements. I run a business on this stuff, so I can't do it for free, but I'll see what I can do 🙂
