Hi, first I hope I'm posting this in the right place, I'm hoping for advice to fix a JVC RX-554V receiver. THe right channel speaker connection is silent. I can't even get a little static by wiggling the wires. The Left is working fine. Here's what I have tried. Both 12 amp fuses are fine, on a lark I switched them and the right is still silent. I switched the speakers, switched the inputs (left for right) on all the connections on the back (tape, VCR, CD etc. )still with no effect. The inside is quite clean with no visually apparent burns or loose connections. Funny thing, BOTH channels are clear as a bell and working wonderfully through the headphones, but nothing coming out of the right channel speaker connection on the back.
Frustrating for me when such a great amp won't work. People ! I need help, I can't live without stereo!! Pleeeeaaaase??😀

I appreciate that, but I don't think that's it, I can see the wires leading to the headphone jack, and there is continuity within the solder points, which seems right since the headphones provide full stereo sound. But I don't see any leads heading away from the headphone jack to any other part of the amp. So I'm still puzzled why the headphones work great, in full stereo but the right channel speaker connections seem completely dead and the left channel speaker sounds great. Still I appreciate the suggestion, and the repair manual helps. But still stuck. Anything else I can try?
I wouldn't expect a 100 wpc unit to be routing its speaker output over a switching contact in the headphone jack. It is quite possible you have bad contact in the protection relay though. Speakers are far more critical than headphones here, as the latter tend to be attached via series resistors of several hundred ohms. If front speaker pairs can be switched independently, try the other one. Note that some units also have a dedicated headphone out tapped off in the preamp section, like an Onkyo of similar vintage that I have.
I want to thank you fellows, I wanted you to know I fixed it by accident. I took off the front panel, used Deoxit on the main volume control knob potentiometer, blew it out with a little compressed air and when I put it back together it worked right away. I thought it would be a little routine maintenence but didn't think it would be the source of the problem. I remember my grandmother had an old TV with vaccuum tubes, when it started to blink she would go up and smack it on the side and the picture snapped back into place. Sometimes the simplest things work, when we're lucky? Thanks again guys. The service manual and the advice helped me get to the source, even if it was dumb luck. 🙂
