Hello folks...
I am new here and thought I should introduce myself. I have been a electronics hobbyist for some years now and am currently enrolled in a university. I have been finding myself lurking here, browsing through various amplifier schematics on this site trying to decipher them and understand how they work and I realised that I could learn a lot from you guys and hence finally decided to de-lurk...
Do you guys have any recommendations on any good tutorials or books on amplifier design? My eventual goal is to design a ultra-low THD amp entirely from scratch - just as a challenge to my design skills.

welcome to DIY
I am kind of clueless with tubes - I am familiar with some of the general principles of operation of the triode and the pentode, but cannot visualise any curves and cannot 'see' things enough to design anything, so I am assuming that the first amp that I design will happen to be a solid state one. Of course, I would like to learn about tubes as well. I have built a tube amp before, but I was too young then and was still in the phase where the enthusiasm of building sort of overshadowed that of designing.
Hi kleinbottle - and Welcome to diyAudio! 😀
Lot's of things to learn and study - here is a good place to start (now that the site is back online) ---- http://www.bcae1.com/

UR Welcome! BTW - don't get to fixated on building an amp with ultra-low THD. Such amps are around - and some people will swear by them and others will swear at them - it's a matter of personal listening taste - which is acquired and refined over time. Some people prefer tube amplifiers that sound "warm" - only to discover that these amps are running as high as 3% THD. To some amps that have very low THD sound "sterile" or "cold" - but again, it's a matter of taste. Other things will also enter into the reproduction chain - your source material - preamp - amp - cables and interconnects - speakers - and - SPEAKERS.
Here is a good link for you. Study this guy very closely and he will save you about 30 years of time and thousands of $$$$ worth of false starts! http://www.lampizator.eu/AMPLIFIERS/AMPS.html

I just finished the stuff on http://www.bcae1.com/. I think I am pretty comfortable with it.
While building a 'warm-sounding' amp would be great, a reason for the low THD goal was that while 'warm-sounding ' is kind of a subjective thing, the THD metric is well defined and for a design challenge exercise, I feel it would be a helpful metric.
Another reason to build multiple amplifiers: some with the goal of sounding warm, some with the goal of having super low THD!

Hi kb
Well -as I said - it's purely a matter of personal taste. Building a amp with ultra low THD is a great place to start out in this little hobby. 😉 Constructing such an amplifier will build your confidence as well as provide you with a benchmark with which to compare other amps to.😎
You will discover that there are other things that get into the mix of things
