I have read a few helpful posts on here and decided join in. I have just bought my first Tripath amp and looking to build a portable bass amp.
I have studied computing not electronics, so I am a total newb though I am hoping to get some theory and and practical experience by reading and breaking out the soldering iron. Any help or advice great appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of good info in the Class-D section, as well as in the Construction Tips section. Have fun!
Hi JV - and Welcome to diyAudio!!!!
Here is some stuff to read about those little electron thingies
Basic Car Audio Electronics
There is a lot to study and learn about - just take it one topic at a time. It can take a couple of years to get half asssssed good and actually understand what is going on circuit wise (or in my case about 40 years and still learning).
The fun to be had is sitting back and enjoying the stuff you have built up! The danger is sitting back and enjoying the stuff you have built up and getting ideas of how to do it better the next time (a never ending cycle).
