Hello, minidsp owner in need of some help with minidsp-rs on Linux.

Hello, I am a proud miniDSP 2x4 HD owner (in Romania). I have had this device already some 7 years. When I bought it I used Windows to configure it. Since then I changed from Windows to Linux. Recently I moved to another place and need to reconfigure my room and speakers.

I managed to use REW (on Linux) for measurements with my UMIK-1 mike, and found minidsp-rs, which is a Linux terminal program to control many miniDSP models (including mine).

The minidsp-rs instructions on Github are clearly not clear enough for me (see: https://github.com/mrene/minidsp-rs). I am stuck with importing files from REW.

Is there anyone out here who has already more experience with the minidsp-rs software?

Thanks for the hint. I thought about that myself.

But... since I did not keep any proof that I 1) bought the miniDSP, and 2) considering that I did not kept the old Windows system, and 3) that I do not have the plugin needed with miniDSP official software, I guessed I'd give minidsp-rs a try (as being a native terminal application for Linux).

Anyway, I am using the Linux variant of REW and I don't like it too much. Perhaps it is feature complete (thanks to the guys who made the port, great job, appreciated), but it feels different than the Windows version.

I can't get Windows11 running in VirtualBox (or qemu/kvm) because of some Microsoft self imposed limitation on the usage of W11 on older processors. But I really want to get Windows10 up and running.

At least one important thing I was able to achieve with minidsp-rs: the device was configured for use with Toslink. And since I did not have the means to change that to USB, I have been forced (years already) to use miniDSP with a specific mini PC that has Toslink output.

Now, without the official software, it takes only one simple command to switch to USB:
Bash:
# minidsp source usb
And this is already a big win. Now I do not need to power up an extra PC because the device was configured ("bricked") to use Toslink! Thanks to using minidsp-rs 🙂
