Hi, I´m Stephan, a retired language teacher, and have been living on the Canary Islands most of my life. I was looking for some help to perhaps repair some very vintage Hifi equipment, and this looked like a friendly forum, so I joined.
My wife and I, now that the kids are both independent, each have our hobbies, and I have resumed some of my old favourites - tinkering with basic electronics stuff, and not-too-complicated C++ programming as used in Arduino microprocessor programming. It is a little similar to QBasic, which I have always been a fan of.
I also like building different things with LEGO Technics and Clementoni Mechanical Laboratory, and have recently got into LEGO City Trains, which I find fascinating. This is
all probably for kids, but I find it enjoyable - that´s the main thing!
I was also into aeromodelling with some own designs, but never really learnt to fly, so the soon crashed, and I substituted that with the different old flight simulators, building planes with the old Aircraft Factory 99. I found I liked building the planes more than flying them, except for the flight-testing, of course!
Going further back, I remember I made a 20W Stereo amplifier from Sales Kit in 1978, and a scratch built turntable to go with it, using a round tobacco tin, a Pioneer rubber band, a Sony record matt and a diamond DUAL needle. It all worked very nicely, and was probably my most memorable feat in the Hifi world.
Nevertheless, my knowledge in electronics is very limited, but who knows... maybe I can understand enough regarding the subject that occupies me at the moment.
So... Let´s see if I can properly open a thread for this issue now.
Thanks very much for your welcome,
Cheers,
Aleatorylamp (Stephan)

Hello Stv,
Thanks indeed for your welcoming message! What a coincidence - also Stephan!
I think I can take the opportunity of asking you which forum you would advise me to open a thread on, for some possible advice for repairing a QUAD II mono amplifier/control unit/tuner (old model - 1960´s?), which stopped working after a leak in the roof during a rainstorm while it was in storage.
Cheers, and thanks in advance,
Aleatorylamp

Best would probably be the tubes/valves forum, if I am not mistaken:which forum
https://www.diyaudio.com/community/forums/tubes-valves.5/
You could also do a search for "QUAD II" and look if there is a similar thread already.
Hi Stv, thanks for your advice! I´ll look into it!
Hi HeyBill,
Thanks for your good words. I believe it was. The tobacco tin was fixed to the flywheel of an old tape recorder, and the rest was just aluminium rods, with a lead-shot filled Mabuchi motor carcass on the other end of the arm for balance. I used it for about 15 years, but unfortunately tried to improve it, and ended up rather un-improving it, so that was the end... Anyway...
