hey hey, i've been dabbling in audio equipment for about two years now, i know quite a bit considering i taught myself everything i know. currently, i've got about 20 3 1/2- 15" speakers lying around in my room along with several hundred feet of wire, some mdf, dampening material, and 4 amps. i like diy. my current projects are:
4 3 1/2" clarions hooked up to a 45 watt amp i pulled out of a behringer k450fx. this thing would be for portable sound goodness.
2 10" pyle subwoofers and a pair of 6 1/2 boss audio component speakers, woofers and tweeters hooked up to a pyle 1000w power amplifier. this would be for playing music in my room.
4 12" boss audio outcast L12 subs hooked up to a behringer europower 4000w amp. this would be for slappin the bass. this is the one i'm having trouble with. i know how i think i want to do the wiring, but the only thing is i don't know how to incorporate only 1 tweeter in the middle. also, i don't know where the hell i would find a tweeter with that kind of power handling. in addition, cause that is one sexy woofer, i want to make the enclosure out of plexiglass. any tips on thickness to minimize vibration? i'm gonna put quite a bit of bracing. also, as far as the tweeter matter goes, the woofers have a remarkable 25-2.2khz frequency response (being subwoofers). with the response going that high, would i even need a tweeter? cause i know that most music only goes up to about 3khz. and i play bass. so what do you think?

also, would i be able to wire the four woofers into 2ohms and then only connect them to one channel? i've also realized that i'd be overpowering the speakers and am going with the EP2000

Well, in the wretched excess department, check the specs on the peavey SP7 speaker which balances two 15" woofers at 1000W rating with one 44XT horn driver at 80W rating. See the peavey.com website, support button to download the pdf file. They have a crossover of 1.6 khz and 3 db points of 39 -19000 Hz. So to produce 129 db continuous (1m) of sound you need a lot more woofer than tweeter. Lots of music has frequencies above 2.2Khz, for example, voice and percussion, but not guitars. Many amps will take a 2 ohm load, but you have to ensure that it is actually 2 ohm and doesn't dip below, as most will trip the breaker below that. See the manual for your amp. For example my SP2XT's are nominally 8 ohm but dip to 5.5 ohm at the crossover frequency, 2 KHZ. Have fun. Lots more speaker expertise on the multi-element forum, I just buy & fix them.
