Hi all. This is just a quick self introduction to hopefully give any of you, who happen to correspond with me, some idea of who you are communicating with.
I guess I'm like many people, I loved my music until I traded in my old idler drive deck for the latest belt drive in the 80's and, over the decades, began the gradual upgrade transition from just enjoying the music to always feeling that somehow it should sound better. Now I figure that a carefully considered return to past values could help me re-capture the musical enjoyment of my earlier days (with the full awareness, of course, that the cynicism born of life experience and realisation of mortality will never allow a complete return to that innocent pleasure).
I joined this forum for many reasons, I've often ended up here when searching the internet for information and members seem to be civilised and helpful. DIY appeals because most of the gear I'm interested in was made many years ago and manufacturer support no longer exists (and it's enjoyable). The immediate reason I've joined this group is because, among other projects, I have a series 1 Rogers Cadet mono amplifier and want to be able to feed a magnetic cartridge input into it and one of the knowledgeable members here has posted a series 3 schematic which could help.
Those other projects not completed include a couple of Lenco turntables, a Sugden Connoisseur idler drive, an old 6V6 theatre amp, Paco SA-40 amp and various old speakers including Goodmans models, Speakerlab 7s and NZ made monitors with Coral drivers. I'd really like to make a Voight Home Constructor's Horn for mono but will have to start with something like a Richard Allan 8" full-range because old Lowthers are thin on the ground here and are horrendously expensive.
Finally, I think I'm mechanically competent but when it comes to electronics I'm a dribbling idiot, but hope to improve. Hopefully I can contribute to this site but fear a lack of technical competence means I may be more a taker than a giver for a while.
