Just wanted to say hi to everyone before I start trolling the forums in earnest.
My current interest is in building two small-sized chip amps to drive 8 ohm (1x12) or 16 ohm (4x12) guitar speakers from a pedal board. I have been using 2 50w valve amp heads which are about twice as powerful and 100x as heavy as my needs. Maybe something in an ammo can format? I realize I can buy one but This is more about the tinkering, learning/practicing electronics and maybe coming up with something out of the ordinary.
I have some experience diagnosing and fixing valve amps but am new to the chip amp scene. I have a dmm and solder sucker but no sophisticated test equipment. Sure I'll have a ton of noob questions but promise to check existing threads first!
Rock on,
Co. Clank

Welcome from another NJ resident who is also experimenting but in tubes.
Best of luck; I have found this to be a friendly, helpful and informative forum.

Thanks guys.
I actually plan to try a 12au7 or ef86 based hifi stereo preamp next if my chip amp project meets expectations.

Welcome to the forum.Chip amps are pretty easy especially if you use one of the available board sets (like chipamp.com or audiosector). 25V rails with LM3875 or 3886 will give you 25w/channel. I have an audiosector that i use in my office.
