Hello to everyone,
Just dropping a line to my introduction and my first thread.
I joined a few days ago but i have been reading here for a couple of months now.
Anyway, i am very very interested in this DIY stuff's, especially the solid state section. know nothing about tubes though. I have no background in electronic stuff. So i might as well learn.
It is better to read and learn your projects then get myself "buzzed by the mains" for not getting things done properly. Not yet thingking of a project.

Welcome marsupial. Reading is great (no shortage of good information around here!) but there's nothing like getting your hands dirty with some of the simpler projects 🙂
Interesting choice of name, marsupial. Quite a number of us here. Since your choice of name indicates your afinity for Down Under😀 , you might as well surf to Rod Elliott's, AKSA, or Quasi's site...... Nice stuff....
I have been surfing Rod Elliots page. But i think his site is quite advance. Anyway, as a reading and information material, that site is very useful.
"Marsupial" is just a name that i have trouble forgetting. BTW Im no where close from "DOWN UNDER". Wish i was there with the 'kangaroos'. Its easier to get parts from anywhere but here in Malaysia. Parts here are difficult to find. Still looking for the right transformer. Thinking of 300va (-+25) for my first project. Don't know what it is, but still checking what works best for my budget and parts availability.
Thanks for everybodys welcoming note.

We have marsupials "up over" here in Canada. Down under they just have a more famous bouncy, punch up, type.
Parts in Malaysia
That's what I thought early on, Marsupial. In fact, I just returned from KL (I'm from KK, Sabah) with a load of parts from Jln Pasar.... Have to be careful with counterfeits though..... Other places for parts are Farnell and RS Components, pricey though. You are more likely to run into hardware problems such as heat sinks and cases..... Contact me privately for reputable shops in Jln Pasar.....
Hi, Cal....... You make me miss my days in New Brunswick, Canada..... What a gorgeous place......

New Brunswick is a place I would love to see one day but unfortunately it is about 4200 Km away so I may have to retire first. 🙂
Cal, at least it is "only" a 6 hour flight for you, for me it is a 20 hour flight, excluding delays and airport transit time.... Would like to be there again before I go "kaput".......
Anyway, back to the thread.......
Anyway, back to the thread.......
Bawang,
If i was staying in West Malaysia it would be ok. But then im staying in W.P. Labuan (a very smalll island). And electronics parts here a very hard to come by, those good ones especially. Trying to get parts in Kota Kinabalu.

Your location said KL..... Labuan is OK, still within easy reach of KK. Unfortunately only one shop in KK that really knows stuff, Genius Electronics in Bandaran Berjaya. The other one at Damai Plaza knows nuts.......unless you have a sample. Take advantage of the cheap airfares by Air Asia to KL. Check for transistors and difficult to get capacitors online from Farnell or RS Components. Order through fax. If you are beginner, the ordinary 1/4 W carbon film resistors that you can find easily in KK will be enough. Enjoy, you will be "consumed" by this hobby.
