Please don't take my title to this post as anything but fact. I listened to a Philips MCD708 MicroDVD Home stereo unit at work and was blown away at the sound quality. I beleive it had a class D amp this with ribbon tweeters. to my ears is the best I ever heard.
I have no education to back up my interest, maybe the forums here are way over my head??? Or can I learn basic things?
I have posted the question about 'adding a sub out rca jack' to a TA2020 rig I ordered on ebay. So as the over analyzer I am, Is the question too rudimentary to be asked?
:innocent:

Yes ,hello !
Have you seen "The great R&R swindle" ?
The forum is not a swindle..but often anyone may get fooled by what he/she hears . I don't dig much of digital treatment of the sound .At low level our ear is very sensitive to subtle changes , so a correct equalized (corrected ,maybe..)
sound ,specially when a brand can manage to engineer every stage from start to end ,it's like a tailors' suit ,it may "fit" you perfectly .
Regarding your question...it is general agreement that subwoofer filtration and equalization must be done at line level (RCA plugs...).
G'bye !

Hi am60,

We all have limits to what we know. AFAIK nobody here objects to rudimentary questions.

Over analyzing, however, is another matter. It' does you no good, and it's downright irritating for a spectator.

...or so my wife says.

Hey ! You make me thinking .
"Line level" is a signal strong enough to drive an amplifier's input ,from 0,1 to 2 Volt...
Same level we find in portable equipment like walkman or cd ,that work on 1-3 volt batteries ,but is a little stronger ,'cause it has some current to drive little headphones (which are little..speakers!),so it's amplified (very few hundreds of a Watt ).
Same level we find at the output of various gear ,cd-players ,tuners,DACs but not microphones or pick-ups in turntables, which have to pass another stage of amplification to reach the "line level" status. The lower the tension ,the higher the precaution in shielding the signal from interferences .Once it is beefed up in current and tension by a power amplifier , it may eventually "drive" something properly (a driver ????! eh😉 )
