HealthKit TC-2

Any opinion about this tube tester? Heath kit TC-2
It looks like a simple tester

Someone I know would like to sell one and wondering if I should pick it up for fun.

If not, is there another reasonable price tube tester that people can recommend?

Mostly to test tubes for my dynakit st-70 and some 12ax7 12au7

Its an emission type tester not a mutual conductance tester but its good enough for a rough idea of the tubes condition and as its sold in 1958 as long as you are using it to test modern tubes it should be okay.

Have a read of-

I started off with a Taylor 45C emission tester but you have not stated the price ----that can make a difference and you have to make sure its in working order.

If it is not working . . .

The electronics can be fixed.
The sockets may need replacing.
The Meter may or may not have a good replacement.
The wiring insulation may not be in good shape.
The switches may need to be replaced.

It might be more of a project to fix, than building a tube amplifier.

Quite correct but I was PM,d by Andrew and I did say that "as long as its in good working order " its much easier to fix than many of the old tube testers for sale in the USA which when you open up are a maze of wires --remember it was a kit .

If Andrew wants to add to that its up to him.

Bearing in mind you can get a superb tester for €200, all parts included, is it worth the effort? If you want to keep it simple, the two socket types of the Dynaco can be hardwired.
uTracer

That is a good alternative
I didn’t know this kit was available.

There is a testimonial project where someone took a Heathkit tc-2 and added the uTracer to it

I've got a Heathkit TC-2.
It's a good basic reliable tester for emission, shorts, overall health of a tube.
Quick to set up and test.
Some internals need replacing, like the old selenium rectifier, a few caps maybe.
Switches easily cleaned with Deoxit, etc.
