My headphones play too loud with my philips 723 cd player. any quick fix for that? Even with volume turned all the way down, too load to my taste, soo load it is tireing to listen with them on it. 32 ohms heaphones is the problem.

It will work, however you'll loose some top end resolution and dynamics in general, which you’ll notice immediately with your headphones! Avoid wire - wound resistors and try to get high power carbon resistors. Making a proper voltage divider at the OP output would work better.

I suggest to insert the voltage divider before the headphone OP (where you can use 1/4W resistor and you'll work with very low current - no inductance loss!), or to decrease the feedback around your headphone OP.

The latest is the easiest: you just solder in parallel to the existing feedback resistor another one of 3-4 times the value. You do not even need to remove anything – you can work from the top! Go gradually down in value.

Or use the trim pot and fine-adjust the feedback!

Put a resistor in series, like 100-220 ohms or just use a pot connected a voltage divider. 500 ohms or 1 kohms is OK. I have this as a volume control when I'm testing my RIAA or headphone amps. 150 ohms headphones and 1 kohms gives me pretty good volume controlliing comfort.

100 ohms => 9.9 dB attentuation

220 ohms => 16.7 dB
