I want to get a decent pair of headphones - budget under $20 - that must be comfortable for extended listening. The problem is that my ears are rather large, so I'm looking for headphones where the cavity in the cushion is large enough - at least 67mm top to bottom. I don't want to fold my ears or squash them.
Please measure the dimensions of the cavity in the ear cushions of your headphones and suggest models that will suit my ears. I'm currently thinking of going for RoG ORION but I've got to know if they will fit comfortably.
Just got someone to measure my ears (they thought I was nuts). Correct measurement: 70mm.

I'm confused: The RoG Orion (a) is a headset and (b) costs like more than 3 times your budget over here. That would only buy you something like a Philips SHP2000 or Sennheiser HD201 around these parts... pretty basic stuff. (I think the former could be big enough, not sure about the latter.) Or a Superlux HD681B (sounds great but the stock earpads suck and you'd want some AKG K24x/27x jobs, which just about double the price, plus I'm not sure a 55 mm ID entirely gets the job done).
I feel your pain though, your ears are even bigger than mine. I've never had any issues with big circumaural Sennheisers, so I would have suggested a HD518/558/598 or HD600/650, but those tend to be 10-30 dB over your budget, and spares are an arm and a leg. Beyerdynamic has better pricing but their stuff still is out of reach (except maybe a DT231/235, whose pads are comfy enough but not huge).

Thanks for responding, sgrossklass. I'm getting the RoG Orion (not Orion Pro) for $20. The Orion Pro is really out of my range. I can go up to $30-40, even, but I need to know that my ears will fit inside.I'm confused: The RoG Orion (a) is a headset and (b) costs like more than 3 times your budget over here. Which headphones do you have or can get your hands on? Could you please measure the cavity and let me know? That would give me reference point for my search. The shops here have many kinds of headphones, but they are all in sealed boxes.
The opening in my Pioneer SE-M531 are 65mm, my ears are 77mm from top to bottom and I haven't had any discomfort with these headphones (they got some room under the opening). My old Philips SBC-HP250 were also similar and I had no issues with discomfort with them even with pretty much nonstop morning to evening use.
https://www.headphonezone.in/ very kindly measured the ear cushion cavity for Sennheiser HD202. Oval 5.5cm by 3.5cm. So that's out. 🙁
Any thoughts on Panasonic - RP-HT460?

ASUS Cerberus Gaming Headset, although boasting 100mm cushions and almost twice my budget (the ASUS Orions are gone) has an inner cavity of just 60mm.
Just got someone to measure my ears (they thought I was nuts). Correct measurement: 70mm.

Shortlist:
Panasonic - RP-HT460
Koss UR20
Behringer HPM1000
Koss R80 (overbudget, but I'm getting desperate)

Philips SHP2500 is under $10. SHP2000 and SHP1900 also available, even cheaper.
Brainwavz HM2 is also available here, as is HM5, although way overbudget.

Good stuff in this thread on another forum:

Any further comments or suggestions, anyone?
Holy Zoo over at head-fi.org has compiled a lot of data into an excel file. I have added a few entries from comments and reports (my entries are marked with an * ). Unfortunately, most of the entries are for audiophile (read expensive) headphones, waaaay out of my budget.

I must say I'm somewhat disappointed by the response to this thread. This is the headphones section of the forum; everyone who vists here has headphones; presumably we all also have rulers/scales/measuring tape. Could everyone please measure their headphones and report back in the following format:
Make - model - inner width - inner height - depth ?
Thanks in advance.

Anyway, due to lack of useful data, bit the bullet and bought a Sennheiser HD 380 pro. Way over budget, but has very large cavities; my ears don't touch the cushions at all.
big
If you have the problem with the size, then save money and buy good headphones. I recommend you sony mdr 7506. It's big one, of a good quality, just right for your ears, not too expensive. Make the right choice)

I just got a pair of Beyerdynamic DT880 250ohm Chrome Special edition head phones. Seriously great sounding and big roomy ear "box". Way bigger than my previous Sony MDRV6's.
