Your proposal is extremely interesting, thank you for sharing. I will check if the ground is common .
Many thanks

You do not need thik wires. 22AWG is fine.
You only need to go thicker if the wire is long and you want some stiffness.
Wire, PTFE Jacket, 22 AWG Stranded, Silver-Plated Copper, White
Gold plated 4mm banana is also perfect.
It is only a few mA afterall.

For noephytes like me, below is an explanation of the issues with this amps and headphones
DIY Audio Electronics from Zynsonix.com: Speaker Amp to Headphone Cable
Sorry there's NO explanation there and only a sure-fire way to immediately blow up your headphones....
Here's some good explanations, too:

Hello everyone,
I have been reading this thread and getting a lot of useful info. I am currently trying to build a speaker/headphones switch from quad 405 speaker output. Speakers are Celestion 66, 4 to 8 ohm.
I would like to power my Hifiman HE400i (2016 edition, planar) which have the following specs:
Impedance : 45 ohm
Max power rating : 2W
Max voltage: 9V
Efficiency : 93dB/mW , 106dB/V
The only thing I'm not sure is the value of the resistors needed for my circuit. How to calculate for this particular pair of headphones?
Thanks !!
W
