In the classical engineering sense, no. But when I read of the poor level of controls, and lack of examination of confounding factors, in some of the testing done by the "big names" in the game, I think I'm in good company, 🙂.

Remember, I'm coming from the angle of troubleshooting, not that of a designer improving current technology. The job of the faultfinder is to locate where a problem lies, that of the engineer is to ensure that future versions of the products don't have the defect.
 
So very clever engineer-fiddle will be worth a lot, if you engineer the smartest fault in the product you possibly can.
And send it far away (to Australia f.ex), so you don't have the unpleasentness of dealing with irrate customers, wanting to lynch you.

I'm in a mode where I'm just looking for forward movement, correctness can come in later - I'm certain that fully verifiable procedures will be developed down the track. It took me ages, back in a time when Internet type communication, and access to all the strands of thinking was unavailable, to get anywhere - I lost interest for many, many years because it was all too hard ... and right now I'm a bit jaded about it, I need a shot of adrenalin from somewhere, 😉.
 
I have never had access to all the strands of thinking. That does not affect my interrest.
Thats a key point, because not knowing makes it interresting. Experimentation is in order for finding progress. So the interrest fuels the fire. If I had given up once for every 1000 mistakes and said : that wasn't exiting enough, I will create an experiment, so exiting, that Im forced to learn something. Usually the breaking point of some unfortunate electric product, that need testing. By me. So its either an endurancetest or a suddendeathtest.

When it comes to interrest, my acoustic environment matters more to me, than a well paid job. This is my hobby. having good sound is a prerequisite for my wellbeing and overall happyness level.
Obviously - If I can combine the two, so my job is my hobby and vice versa its a winwin.
Now I am free to do both, as I please.
And I will. All my spare time is spend on hobbies. And this hobby as any hobby is ment to be fun and exciting.
So I am having fun with it and getting all excited, when some minor detail shows up to be the elephant.
I hope some newbees can learn something from my silly mistakes. and not electrocute themselves or sombody else or animal, by following my example. This is not always safe. Thats the exciting part.

snup, at least you're showing enthusiasm - that's a good start! I don't try to break things, my natural urge is for refinement - it's the seeing of a single weed in the middle of the lawn, that so obviously doesn't belong there - and not then just pulling it out! Because, another one will pop up in its place, sure enough - I want to know how to stop that weed coming up, on an ongoing basis - the permanent solution, IOW.

A key couple of points ...

In [1] an auralization technique is presented that is based on a precise loudspeaker model. In general, auralization is a simulation that has two major objectives:

* Sensitizing the listener to the investigated distortion components (by enhancing them) and thus defining “what to listen for”.

* Determining the detection threshold (or an acceptable level) of the distortion components.
