cheating a bit to get it all in one place but good luck. Do you know any of the specs for the panel such as the response time and contrast ratio? these are the things which can make or break a panel. There is o point having the best and cheapest light setup if the panel ghosts alot or has a CR of 50:1. Try and find these specs and people will offer comment. Search the forums and see how others are using there ohps. Looks like whta you bought was someone elses attempt at whta your after, hopefully you can carry it all off. enjoy yourself thats the main thing.

Thanks alchemist62, the specs are as follows:

PolaView 1800 Color TFT-Panel

With 2,1 million colours this TFT-Panel guarantees high quality presentations. It can be used with different sources, such as PC, Macintosh, or video. Texts, graphics and videos (optional) are presented with standard VGA resolution of 640 x 480 pixels x 3 (RGB). Contrast ratio 100:1;
automatic image setting;
compatible with VGA, SVGA, EGA, CGA, Mac II, Quadra and Powerbook;
low-noise cooler;
perfect fit for all overhead projectors;
remote control;
weight 2,0 kg.

Don't know much about the projector, does the fact that its old make a large difference? Considering I will only be using it to watch films \ football matches and the room will be in darkness?

Is it a good deal indeed?

There's been talk about the poor supply of panels outside of the USA (except maybe Germany), and in the UK, I would guess I've seen about 15 or so "doing the rounds" on ebay.

IMHO, if the OHP is in reasonable condition (stage glass and fresnel lens not scratched, and the optics are good, you should get pretty good performance in a dark room with this set up.
There are many variables that determine if the panel is okay, good or really good. (pixel response times, tft transmissivity, fan noise), to name just three important factors!
You'll only discover this by trying it out. The model you have bought is not particularly well known or widely documented.

I have owned a few panels over the past months and would say that as far as value for money.....overall I think it is an okay deal - you have not been stitched up by any means, but it is not really bargain of the century either.

One things for certain, once you get bitten by the bug, you will be hunting out either an SVGA panel, or XGA monitor to DIY a panel.

The bulbs for these OHPs are dirt cheap by the way - around the £5 - £7 mark from Staples / Viking. I buy OHP bulbs online from a cheap supplier www.aalighting.co.uk
They should last around 75 hours - which gives a running cost of about 16p for a 2- hour movie.
