Have a busted Lightware Scout 2000 - any use?

I have an old Lightware Scout 2000 SVGA LCD projector (800x600), but I'm pretty sure it's busted. I bought a replacement lamp and it burnt out upon first turning the unit on. Thus, I suspect the electronics are bad.

So, is there anything worth scavenging from this projector? I'm not sure, but I think the LCD won't actually display anything without a lamp--the projector automatically powers down if it detects no power running through the lamp. Thus, I'm guessing that there's no way to use the LCD. But is there?

The mirrors and lens are fine, I suppose. The cooling fan spins, also.

Maybe I could just scavenge the lens, to use with a small handheld TV LCD and a new lamp? I have a number of spare computer fans and AT power supplies already.

I don't know how to tell the difference. The lamp for the Lightware Scout 2000 and Lightware Scout were the same; they were mostly identical except the Scout 2000 had only VGA input.

Doing a web search, I think that the Scout/Scout 2000 lamps were Metal Halide, and they're discontinued now. The lamps themselves cost $250+ now, and they never had a really good lifetime. I don't think it makes economic sense to try and repair the projector to its original design. At 800x600 resolution, I think I'd rather wait for Mitsubishi's new little projector which will cost less than 3 Scout lamps and last far longer!

If I can do something with its parts on a tight budget, though...maybe something can be done?

Yeah, but I'd also have to figure out some way to fool/convince the rest of the electronics that the lamp exists and is drawing power properly. Otherwise, the Scout2000 automatically shuts down after a few seconds.

Maybe I can trade the whole unit to someone who's up for the challenge or wants the parts? This is a compact projector with a single 1.6" LCD. The input is VGA 15 pin only, scaling the input to 800x600 (max input of 1024x768). All of the lenses and mirrors and such are pretty small as you'd expect for a 1.6" LCD in a compact projector.

What I'm really looking for is an overhead projector lens. Just the lens.

Thanks!
