Hello, I’m new and just learning about xovers. I’ve restored xo with kits, but I need to barrow someone’s creative and technical skills.
I found these homemade aristocrats with EV sp12’s, realistic leaf tweeters 40-1375, and realistic paper midrange 40-1282b. It has a first order xover with a 3.3uf on the tweet, a 15uf on the mid, and nothing on the sp12. I rewired them, hooked them up and sounded outstanding even with one tweeter blown. I did an ohm test. I want to fix them up. I will rebuild the face to accommodate new design, replace the whizzer cone on the sp12.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH THESE HAUNTED SPEAKERS?

Are the xo’s used correct or is that why the tweeter is blown?
If it is the correct xo what super tweeter could be a direct swap? And should I do that?
Should I by original EV xo’s and tweeters from EBay and restore them original.?
Would you go 2 way or 3 way?
Lastly, I’ve never seen an sp12, is that gap between cone and dust cap normal??

You could ride your bicycle to Radio Shack and there would be hundreds of Blue Boxes full of speakers.
Also stocked with crossover parts. No mail order, right there down the street for any project.
They even had dome mids.
Actually reconed Electro Voice has far far more value than , blown tweeters.
Tweeters needed to be crossed 5k or higher and 1st order would not be ideal.
SP-12 has its place
Impedance sweep would tell you the port tuning.
Would just add a new baffle for a new cheap 2 way, refinish the outside.
Recone or just sell the SP12's cheap for somebody else to recone.
