With much money to spend I was looking at subwoofer amplifiers because I want to get something that will fully power my Adire Tumult. I looked at many pro amps and a few plate amps, and I really like the adire ADA1200 amp.
I dont think I would be dissatisfied with it, but before dropping $600 on it I thought I'd look for some feedback here at DIY to see if anyone has used it, or has a better suggestion.
Any imput is appreciated greatly.

I have not built mine yet, but I bought the ADA1200 to power my Avalanche 18 subwoofer (my first..)
I intend to start the design (with the help of this forum ) and building process over the winter

BA, I have to admit, the combination of features there is very attractive. However, the price is fairly high and the rumble filter isn't a real rumble filter. I'd be annoyed to have to add on a rumble filter!
If you used a pro amp like the Behringer EP2500 with a proper rumble filter and a vented box, then you stand to gain a LOT more max SPL, not only from getting 2.4 kw of power, which only gives you 3db more headroom, but also due to avoiding extreme excursions below tuning.
Not knowing your setup, I don't know if this helps or not. Fan noise is a pest, but if you can get around it you could spend the money you save on something like DCX and get some very serious bass integration! I know someone who uses it to calibrate his Tumult sub and the result is impressive.

Thanks for the Imput. One thing you mentioned is that the Adire amp is highly priced. Well I hadnt actually found a pro amp that had a lower price yet, but I only looked at a limited few brands(mostly crown and QSC).
The Behringer is a good suggestion.... but the rumble filter(30 or 50hz) is way too high for my application.
Having a 2hz rumble filter shouldnt be a big problem as I will be using the sub in a 6cubic foot enclosure tuned to 16hz. The amount of content below 30hz even is quite low in music and the content below 20hz is quite low in HT. And of course with 34mm one way excursion it would take quite a large signal to get the sub to reach Xmax.
I do very much like the features. 2 12db/octave low pass crossovers, and 2 bands of parametric EQ sound very useful. I dont exactly understand how a phase shifter could be continuously variable, but maybe it is just at the crossover frequency I dont know.

Also Adire doesnt really give a peak wattage rating for the amp or the sub, but I'd imagine that those levels would be considerably higher than the continous RMS ratings.

The filters are not really rumble filters, they are for PA speakers without much low end, and they can be defeated.
You could easily add on a rumble filter with a lower fc to suit your system. Below your tuning cone excursion gets out of control as you know. I just don't think it's a good idea from a design point of view to have a sub which can get out of control when there is strong output below tuning, even if you are tuning at 16 Hz and have 34mm xmax. I design so that the excursion below tuning will never exceed that higher up with a signal of the same level.
On AVERAGE this may be true, but good engineering allows for the worst probable scenario. It will be when you turn up your 2.4kw amp and there is high subsonic SPL that you have problems.
Also don't underestimate the LF content in both music and movies. I have a RTA in my system all the time, and it amazes me how much is down there. On Blade for example, the bass at 20 Hz is much stronger than anywhere else - it slopes up as you go lower in many parts of the movie. It would not surprise me if it continued that way well below 20 Hz, although that is off the scale.
Consider this:

Behringer DCX - digital active xo with phase correction, eq, etc $310 RRP
There is a group buy on at the moment, you should at least get a 20% off retail as an individual, but as a group buy, suppose you get 30% off, the cost is $483 or at the worst $540.
That's twice as much power and a LOT more power to control that thing. As a bonus you can use the xo for your speakers - 2 way stereo plus a sub or 2. It would have more eq to deal with room modes than that Adire thing, it has digital delays ... And you are still saving money ...

The rumble filter corner frequency is very easy to change. I just substitue 0.1uF caps for the stock 0.01uF parts and it that raises it to 20Hz. You can go part way obviously if you need to pick a lower point.
The combination of brute power and features make these amplifiers awesome. I'd much rather have all the features rolled into a plate amplifier rather than having two rack mount devices to perform roughly the same function. I think once you buy the other devices and run the cables you will find you have roughly the same money invested and a much uglier solution.

I agree with kevin here... I like the idea of having the amp in the box, no fan noise, and all of the controls in one unit. The only wires to run will be signal and a power chord.
I think I'm going to order the ADA tomarrow unless someone who has used one has something bad to say about it(I can hardly imagine).

Look at the bottom of Kyle's message. Acoustic-visons is the only online adire dealer that I know of myself. I'm guessing Kyle was talking about using the ADA1200 with the old tumults because I dont believe the new ones are out yet, but who knows... he might have a few of the new ones he's trying out before they are officially released.

I'm sorry I don't, but Adire does have a dealer in Australia that can supply any Adire products.
Kyle, it's not the Adire products I'm interested in (I'm 20 mins from the only Aussie dealer). IMO their XBL^2 subs aren't very price competitive anymore. Your new subs have XBL^2 technology at a competitive price. This is why I ask.
