Has anyone built the Veritas?

This is a speaker design that I saw on www.speakerbuilder.net It is a 3-way floorstander w/2 woofs and even a ribbon tweet. I did a search and saw a couple of recommendations for building it but no actual testimonials. The current price list is a little over $500. I've l considered several 2-way designs that are much more expensive. Those use Seas, Scan Speak or Vifa mid-woofs vs the Dayton woofs in this system. I wonder if my non-audiophile ear will hear the difference. I need new 2-channel speaks to replace some 22-yr old piece of crap Bose 601s. I want to use them for a variety of music including classical strings. I don't want to compromise on bass when I listen to classic rock.

It can be seen here:

Thanks

Good question, Jeff. Should have asked it myself 🙂

I had a hankering a while back to try a 2 x 10" sealed woofer box.

The Daytons do seem to have a good bang-buck ratio but ther are also some well priced high end 10" that are suitabel for sealed boxes. The Peerless 850146 10" CSX comes to mind.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has produced a 2 x big driver sealed box.

Anyone?

Oh, Jeff, you may try contacting Wayne J (designer of the Veritas) to see if he knows of any builders out there.

Well they certainly don't make them like the Veritas anymore
here in the UK. The design is certainly very cost effective.

but I think its technically flawed. The two tens in paralell
are simply crossed over too high to the mid-dome to have
a consistently smooth off axis response in this region.
The cabinet design is also somewhat rudimentary.

I'd be happier recommending another of his designs that
is half the price for non-ultra audiophile applications :

At the price i can't see anything wrong with
this, IMO its a much more balanced design.

Cabinet design details are even sketchier here but TBH it
doesn't matter - but it does need some bracing added IMO.

🙂 /sreten.
