hi, i just upgraded my speakers from a set of Advents to some Epos bookshelves. The dealer recommended to put them on 24" stands, to obtain the optimal imaging properties the speakers can produce. However, the only stands he had in the store were a $200 pair, and a $220 pair. Has anybody made some nice looking heavy stands for a reasonable price? Thanks!

This one has a short blurb about his stands too.

The matching "I" beam style stands were made out of ¾" MDF. I laminated (glued) 4 pieces together for the uprights and two pieces together for the top and bottoms. The top of the stand is the same size as the bottom of the speaker and has a matching beveled 45 degree edge. The Bottom piece is 1" bigger in width and depth than the top piece to add stability.

for about $50, you can go to Garden Ridge (or a crafts store like Michaels or MJ Designs), and buy those white plaster columns. Their not DIY, but they look descent, and their usually about 24"-28" tall, and have fairly large pedestals.

Maybe spray some expanding foam inside or something.

Also pour over this thread for some more ideas.

Speaker Stand Thread

Speaker Builder had an article a few years back on stnads that were built from PVC pipe with wood base and platforms. Filled with sand for stability and your good to go for very little money.

You could go crazy like I did when I had more money than sense and use 2x4" steel, 3/8" thick filled with sand and 3/8'' base and platforms but it isn't neccessary.

try to use marble

I'm always sued marble for audio. it's better then other material. what do you think about it?
