true but i dont have the tools 🙁 nor any strores in my area that sells wood....plus im lazy :/ ...lol i think the basic price of the MKII is reasonable....compared to OHPs and having to drrmel OHPs stage to fit certain LCD modules.

John i hear your selling some stuff too besides the lens what are you selling?

ND if you plan on ordering the MKII from Alan just know that it might take a very loooooooooooong time. I have been waiting for over a month and am barely going to get mine hopefully this week. I think I was one of the first people to order one so hopefully he will start to get them out sooner but just wanted to give you a heads up. As soon as I get my MKII I will let you know how it goes.

I'd be happy to. But if your in Brooklyn... I cant believe there isnt a Home Depot in your area. I have like 4 within 10-15 minutes of me.

I'm also coming out with plans of my own for release online. Something like Alans but with a slimmer style and totally different lens focusing design. The only wood used will be for a thin frame. The frame will then be completely encased in polished Aluminum.

"I'd be happy to" how much would you do it for?

yes im in Bk...but where im from (the "hood") isnt full of big retail stores..🙁

I'd be willing to buy your new design if its cheaper than alans,
I dont think 39$ is too bad for an enclosure since its cheaper than an OHP..ut i wouldnt mind a cheaper one 🙂

I'd have to look at his design and see.

I'm looking to take a different route then Alan. I'd like to just sell my "blueprints" for a few bucks each rather then selling ready cut kits. To me ready cut kits kinda ruin the whole "Do it yourself" idea. The only items I wanna sell would be the hard to find items. The plans would be packaged as a CD with a printed .PDF walkthrough to go along with it.

Hey ND sorry I did not get back to you sooner but it took me awhile to get everything in order. I don’t know if mine is the best to go buy since I modified it. Here are some pics of my hacked up MKII anyways.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

as you can see in this picture this is originally where the image is supposed to come out and the case is supposed to be standing up. I used a larger 400 watt MH bulb instead of the smaller 250 watt bulb that Alan sells so I had to move the lcd and Fresnel forward which made the mirror to hard to fit in the case. I decided to get rid of the mirror and just cut another hole in the front.

here is my big @ss ballast.

Here is the focusing apparatus. I have to say that it is a little hard to focus with this thing you have to make sure the poles are very straight or it is hard to move back and fourth. It does get the job done though.

Here is the inside not much going on here but you can see my converted ice cream bowl to a reflector at the top.

The MKII I would not say is very good cosmetically but is functional. You still need to have at least a drill and I would suggest pre drilling all your screw holes because the mdf stuff cracks easily. Also you have to cut your own fan holes but this was not really a problem. Putting it together is not to hard and very straight forward but I did have a lot of trouble making the LCD tray because my cmv 1512 does not lay flat, there is one board that is at a 45 degree angle (I ended up messing up the one that diylabs sent me so I had to buy some more wood that is why the tray a focusing thing are made with a different wood). If you have the tools you will probably want to make the case your self but if you are limited on tools and are more worried about functionality then cosmetics than the mkii is an option.

Naaaaaaah, dont worry about it! lol
thanks for the extensive MKII guide 🙂
but I have to say that your MKII doesnt look much liek the one alan is posting IMO, its looks ALOT like "Akeem's" setup...if you know who that is.

I was expecting to see it in a vertical position, but yours is very nice,Does it come with that wooden piece(4) that extend the lens?

more pics would be appreciated 🙂
thx for posting it

ND I have not forgotten about you. I am just very busy. I will post some more pics a little later if you still want some. Just in case any one is wondering this is the case I got from diylabs. I did paint it, cut (a lot of) extra holes, and added the racing fin (it runs a lot faster now! 😀 ) but this is the one Alan sent me. It did come with the little focusing thing but I had to make a bigger one since I cut the hole in the front and pushed every thing forward. That’s why the wood looks different.

jcbklyny I am going to build another case because I messed this one up and my mother in-law hates it (not the image it puts out but the box itself). I would love to make it out of alloy but don’t even know where to begin. I barely can work with wood I don’t know how I would do with alloy. Do you have any links from people that have an alloy case or people with tips on alloy
