Hello all sorry if this has been discussed before but I have searched to no avail. Is there any vga processing box that can be placed between the vga output of a device and the monitor that will let you adjust gamma and maybe brightness and contrast? The cmv1512 does not have any gamma setting built in so I can not adjust them. I have no problems with my DVD’s because I play them from my pc so I just use the gamma correction on the pc. But, I have an xbox vga adaptor that I would like to use but games that do not have gamma correction do not look to good. I am able to run the xbox through the svideo on the tv card in my pc and adjust the gamma settings from there but the image does not look as sharp compared to the vga adaptor. I have tried to search the internet for some hardware that can do this for me but have not found any. Does any one have a link to a hardware vga processing device or know what something like this would be called? I know I am just being picky because the svideo looks pretty good but if possible I would love to be able to use the sharpness that a xbox vga box can give me.

hey man, hmmmm gamma is a hardware thing, i sujest either changing your monitor with one built into the features or maybe try to find some gear from the net that tv studio's use if budget isnt a problem, other then that there isnt much u can do, i dont think amplifying the signal would be much good as u would be overdriving the input signal to the panel, the only thing that is realisticly possible and a cheaper alternative is to get one of those cards for making movies and dvd's in your comp and run it through that, unfortunatley then u will have to have your comp on at the same time as the xbox wasting power, a htpc may be the go.

Thanks for the reply ace. I guess I am out of luck. I have searched and searched the internet but have not found anything cost effective. Most of my games look great but for some reason Halo (the one game I wanted to play the most in vga) gamma is just all wrong on my projector. Other games do not look to bad or have there own gamma correction. Oh well I will just continue to use my tv card and dscaler (awesome program by the way) for halo. Don't get me wrong the tv card, dscaler, and halo look damn good but I wanted the extra sharpness that the vga adaptor would give me especially for sniping.

I am using a cheap generic pc tv card. I think it is a tv view 99 or something like that. A friend actually gave it too me ( I think he paid $40 for it brand new) because the tuner software that came with it is horrible. The image looks like garbage and won’t even resize right. I started to search for some other tv tuner software that can work with pc tv cards and found power vcr and dscaler. I tried them both and dscaler just kicks @ss. It has so many options and filters to play with to get your video the best it can be, and the best thing about it is it is totally free! Now my tv picture is great and my friend has started to use dscaler wishing he did not spend more on a different tv card. Here is a link if you are interested http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net/ . The only bad thing about this approach compared to one of those external dedicated tv box's is like you said I have to have my computer on to watch tv or play my xbox.

heya space ninga same here actually i hate the software for mine, its actually nearly driven me to throw my card out of the window trying to install it on xp lol, anyway its going now, thanks for the info on the programs, ill be sure to check them out and they sound great, as for having the computer on for a tv, well realy u cant beat $40 for a tv i think they are a bargain but also crap with the software they come with, still cant beat watching tv in the corner of the screen while surfin though.

Are the shadows in your Halo mega dark aswell? That's my main problem too, and it's really irking me off.
I have to agree with you Trev you can’t beat a $40 tv. And with such a cool free program like dscaler it turns a cheap crap card into a great tv card.
Wes Marquenie thanks for the link, I think you have put the final nail in my hardware gamma correction coffin. I am ok with electronics but it sounds too complicated to make it and too expensive to buy one.
Sir_Vival Halo is too dark and the color is just weird. When you crash onto halo in the beginning of the game you are supposed to be on the planet on a nice sunny day but it looks like sundown on my projector with my vga adaptor! When I play my friends if you hide in a dark spot you become invincible because no one can find you. However, when I run Halo through my tv card with dscaler I can adjust the gamma and make the colors right and brighten up the dark spots. It looks real good like this but not as sharp because of the tv signal. What do you use to get you xbox on your projector (xbox vga adaptor,tv card, external tuner box, lcd build in tuner)? If you run it through something that has adjustments other than the lcd ones you should be able to get the colors and shadows right.

Well it isn't that complicated.
vga-in -> red logarithmic opamp, green logarithmic opamp, blue logarithmic opamp -> vga-out
The logarithmic scale could be adjusteble with a step attenuator.
I use an X2VGA adapter to my NEC 1545v, but when I was running it directly to an old Sharp panel I had it was too dark then too...Halo is just a trouble game, hehe...hopefully soon I'll be able to run things from my computer.
The only problem with my Halo is that the colors are a bit dim and the shadows are way too dark...I was hoping to fix the latter with splitting my fresnel, but it didn't seem to work.

Why not just get a VGA switcher? They have full gamma settings and will allow you to use both VGA adapters from your PC and XBOX.
