Hey guys, I'm playing around with making cables. Cotton tubing isn't hard to find, but I've seen hardened cotton used on cables and other things. It can act something like heatshrink for the purpose. But I haven't a clue how it's done, and was hoping for some advice.

This is probably wrong, but first thing that came to mind. I know someone who took an art class, soaked Cotten fabric in a solution of white (grade school style) glue diluted with water. The fabric would hold it's shape after it dried. Not sure if it helps for what you're planning. You could always starch someone's shirt for a prank instead.
