How strong is your roof?

Just put some 2x4s or something between 2 of your rafters in your attic then put some long bolts through your ceiling into the 2x4s. If you get long enough bolts (like 2 foot long i guess) then you can put a board at the bottom of the bolts to rest the projector on.
It's not real scientific, it's just what I thought would work.

lol, ok... what is above you? You're almost certainly going to have to find some way to attach to the rafters or you'll just pull the ceiling down.
Agreed. You're going to need to have access to some sort of structureal beams in order to hang the thing. Or you'll need about 100 drywall anchors and a lot of patience to make sure that the little wires you hang it from have very even tension on them. 🙂
hanging the projector
By far, the easiest way is to use a long-throw lens so you can put the projector on a shelf at the back of the room. Then you don't have to do keystone correction or get stiches in your head every time you bump into it!
If you really have to hang something from the ceiling, then you need to find the rafters. You can use a stud finder. Then drill a few small holes to make sure you really found one. Once you figure out exactly where two adjacent rafters go, you can bolt a 2" x 4" x whatever to two rafters using some big lag bolts. Maybe 5" long 3/8" lag bolts would do it. (Depends on how thick the ceiling plaster or wallboard is.) These are like big fat screws, but you turn them with a socket wrench. You have to drill wide enough pilot holes so you don't split the rafters in two. Then bolt another piece of 2 by 4 to the two rafters 12" to 18" away.
This gives you a nice anchor for hanging a your projector. Figure out some steel brackets for connecting your projector to the 2 by 4s by looking at all the different brackets they have at Home Depot or some other home improvement store. Then you can make the spacing between the 2 by 4s match those brackets when they are attached to your projector.
