What would be the 2 sizes most commonly used for building tube amps?
The hole sizes for an octal socket (1 1/8") and for a 9 pin miniature socket (7/8").
BELTON VT8 SERIES-High Insulated 8 Pin Vacuum Tube Socket VT8-PTS
BELTON VT9 SERIES-9 Pin Miniature Conventional Wiring Chassis Mount Socket
These holes allow the sockets to be mounted directly to the underside of the chassis
without spacers. Be careful converting these hole sizes to metric, since the sockets are
standardized in English units. Perhaps that should be American units, since England is metric.

3/4" for 7 pin too. And some octals are only 1" (like top mounted Chinese).
The Belton octals are 30mm.
Also, A1 has Belton and many others for less money from Canada. TUBE SOCKETS

If you are using NOS holders on top of the chassis then it is
1 1/8" for octal
3/4" for B9A
5/8" for B7G
Modern holders can be different.
