It has been seventeen days, three hours and twenty nine minutes since my last purchase of anything audio related. I think I am cured…
The only thing left to do is to learn how to build tube (valve) amplifiers in order to justify (hide) some more spending. It is easier to hide the small amounts from Mrs. X, as she will never figure out that the end result of buying little things from all over the world will eventually contribute towards my overall collection of hi-fi equipment. She may even confuse some of the items with bicycle spare parts.
No - This is not the real reason folks. I would absolutely love to build my own beautiful sounding valve amp set in South African Kiaat wood and maybe ultimately combine that with a matching pair of speakers made from the same wood/veneer.
I have lots to learn as my last experience with anything electronic and Ohm’s laws were in high school. Now 30 years ago. I bought a book called Valve Amplifiers (3rd addition) by Morgan Jones and have started to work through it. Only three days so far and no lights have come on as yet. As a matter of fact I get the feeling I should buy a kit and give it to a kid to build…
…But I will persist and maybe with your help get there and that is why I am here. I want to learn and do it. One valve at a time. I need to understand what I am doing. Without understanding there is only magic. Sales people sell magic. I want to know why it feels so good when it sounds so great. In that way I may ultimately be able to contribute and help others as well.

Very possibly also cold and wet. Cold as in 10 C. This will continue until at least the end of August. Winter is normally 3 days of terrible weather and 4 days of excellent weather. 20C and up with no wind or rain. The 4 days of excellent weather is normally from Monday to Thursday.

You could probably buy a valve amp kit from Karel Mars in Paarl. He also hosts workshops.

Thank you for the welcome. I have already made contact with Karl and asked him to let me know when his next workshop is.
I prefer not to go the kit route for now.
