Guitar tube Pre-amp

Hi,
This is my first post here,
I'd like to build a pre-amp. I want to get a heavy distortion and something like we heard in Metallica's songs . I think a Messa/Boogie Mark IV or C+ pre-amp would be OK, if it's hard to find the schematic I prefer a Marshall pre-amp.
Anybody can take me through the process? (Schematics, advises, ...)

Use at least 4 stages, use tubes, use DC heaters, have fun.

The problem is every Preamp has designed for its power amp, do you think there might be some problems if I connect it to my amp directly?
