I am making a simple audio amplifier that i found the schematic out of a book i found at the local library(it has many different circuit schematics). I asked my friends dad how to hook my guitar to the amplifier and he said it could be hooked directly but it might burnout the circuit...what can i do so i can hook it up? any information would be very useful. The amp i am making uses the LM386 IC. its powered by a 9v battery.
You're fine. I've built an LM38x guitar amp before, no worries.
If you're interested in the background why someone would make such a statement, research the topic of amplifier input impedance. A guitar is a high impedance source.
