Hi all,
I recently built a guitar preamp similar to this one but I've omitted R2 from my circuit: FET Preamp Cable
Fairly happy with it - I've noticed that my guitar has a little more highs and a very slight volume boost.
It does seem however, a little noisy. Its not really a white noise, so I don't think its the ground floor (plus the gain is pretty small so I wouldn't expect to hear it). What's interesting about it is that I can actually remove the noise by rolling off the tone on my guitar.
Does anyone have any ideas what it could be or how to identify it properly? My only idea at the moment is that my particular arrangement has created some kind of resonant circuit/antenna and is picking up interference.
I'd be interested to hear what people think!

No I haven't tried it with the 20K mainly because I have seen other circuits where it is omitted. Can I ask what you expect this will do to the circuit? Thinking about it, if I continue with the idea of the pickup coils and cable forming a LCR filter, could the 20K series resistance dampen or move the reasonance peak? Or is it a completly unrelated?
