Guitar Buffer OpAmp Question...

Hi...

I am building a Guitar Buffer for my pedal board and am basically using this schematic...

with some modifications published in Projects for Guitarists by Craig Anderton. Basically the modifications use dual batteries and have a more filtered output.

What do you recommend I use for the Op Amp? He claims you can use any 741. I was thinking of using a TL071 or TL072 or something like that since they are cheap and generally lower noise.

Any suggestions?

Or Any suggestions on general design?

Yes, you should be fine. I believe the TL07x's work well in unity gain applications.

Personally, I wouldn't build it this way. Using 2 batteries is wasteful, since the guitar output is low enough that +/- 4.5 VDC power will do the job, which is how most commercial pedals are designed. I would look for an op amp that is happy at +/- 5VDC power and use 1 battery with a voltage divider circuit.
