Grundig Console KS 526

I picked up this large Grundig console radio a few years ago from the original owners. They said it was from the late 70s, and it mostly works. Intermittently there is a loud crackling sound that powers through any audio on any sources (audio remains audible). It's intermittent, so it's not always a problem, but enough so to make it hard to appreciate. It sounds to me like a bad connection at the input of the power amp section (crackling is full volume despite volume setting/input), but I cannot find any info or schematics on the web to debug.

The label on the back says "MODELS [unreadable] KS526" The unreadable portion was lovingly marked over with a sharpie at some point (I can't imagine the previous/sole owners doing it though). It has a PE 2001 turntable as well.

None of my normal internet haunts (radiomuseum, etc.) have any knowledge of a Grundig KS 526 model, and browsing pictures has not turned up any other info.

Can anyone here point me in the right direction?
