Does anyone know of any plans to build one of these? I bought one at radio shack and it does not work very well. It removes some of the hum but not all. Thank you, Shawn
Generally, when they are needed, there is a problem with one of the components in the system. What are the components in the system?
Is it a hum or a whine that varies with the engine speed?

It's definately a whine from the alternator. I'm using an Alpine head unit, low level outputs to a Coustic 100w/channel amp.
I used to have a ground loop isolator that was twice the physical size of this radio shack one. It worked very well. These seem very hard to find now?

I routed the low level speaker wires with the amp power. This is probaly whats causing the noise. I wish that I would have known before doing the install.
If radiated electrical noise is causing the problem, it's unlikely that any type of noise filter is going to help. Run a second set of patch cords outside the vehicle or over the seats to see if it's quiet that way.
