Hey everyone,
I'm building a portable boombox and wanting to protect the driver by using these grills.
6-1/2" 2-Piece Steel Mesh Speaker Grill Black | Parts-Express.com
Maybe this should be clear to me but should the lower piece (mounting ring with screw holes) be placed between the speaker flange and the cabinet or above the speaker. The grill part then slips over the lower piece.
Thanks for your help.

I guess it depends on which way it fits best. If you can slide the mounting ring around the driver so it sits against the cabinet underneath the driver flange then I see no reason not to do it that way. Then you don't have to worry about the height of the mounting ring flange. But it does look like the mounting ring has countersunk holes indicating it would be top mounted. Hopefully the mounting ring is not too deep or that would interfere with the ability to hold the driver flat.
Here, I read one of the reviews to confirm it is top mounted.

"These are nice looking grills. The covers slide in place over the mounting ring, that is screwed down over the driver. These will NOT fit a cast aluminum driver! When choosing these, be sure that your driver is no larger than 6.5" total, or they will not fit."

Thanks for the reply Cal. I did see that response on the PE site. I was concerned with vibration if I top mounted them. I'm going to have to redrill the bolt holes on the mounting frame anyway so I'll have to straighten the unused countersunk holes with a punch. I'm planning on gasketing between the driver and the cabinet. I guess I could also gasket between the grill mount and the driver. I was hoping someone else had used these and could relate what they did.
If these weren't such nice grills and a necessary part of the build I'd try something else.

When we used those, the attached ring was choosen large enuff so that it fits outside the edge of the driver. (ie driver can be removed leaving the snap ring in place.
