Hello everyone,
Well, i've been well and truely bitten by the audio DIY bug.
I'm an engineer by trade (mechanical stuff) and have always enjoyed making things. I'm currently putting togther a HTPC that will be housed in a rather special aluminium/carbon fibre chassis with blue LCD screen and some fancy front end software. 🙂
I'm also planning to build some speakers in the near future. Small 2 or 3way floorstanders to start with eventualy moving on to some B&W 801 clones.
I've just stumbled on the Passlabs site. Definatly going to have to try my hand at a Son of Zen or similar in the near future also. So many project so little time. The summer is rapidly aproaching and the call of trackdays is tugging. I'm gonna have to get the bike ready soon aswell. Nevermind i can sleep when i'm dead🙂

Welcome. Loudspeakers are hard work. (Well, I think so, anyway.) Why not either build what you finally want straight away, or build something using the mid and top for the final monster, and then add the bass? Upgrading is expensive...
What's the bike?
What's the bike?
Hiya,
I'm looking to do the 801 clones in either carbon fibre or plywood. Thats all the 800 signatures are, plywood !! Couldn't belive they're charging £16,000 for a set of plywood speakers
I can pretty much guess how they've done them as well, but CF would be fun to do and oh so pretty. I just need to practice on a smaller scale first.
The bike ? I've got a few, but i mainly use the GSXR600 for trackdays. I've also built an RGV500. RGV250 chassis with RG500 motor
. Do you ride ?
Cheers
Pete.

Used to have a Ducati Pantah 600
Unfortunately, freezing my nadgers off in the winter has limited appeal, and walking anywhere in full Mad Max costume in the summer is sweaty. Surprisingly, I found that you can have just as much fun doing 40mph on a tandem or a solo pushbike as 100mph on a Ducati. Not that I would exceed a speed limit, you understand. I think you are a good deal more serious than me about bikes. Every so often I have daft ideas about a modern version of the Morgan three-wheeler. (Use the engine and back end of a Ducati 996, spaceframe chassis, add a Formula Ford front suspension and steering.
Yup. I can believe £16,000 for plywood speakers. I went into a Hi-Fi shop recently and couldn't believe the prices charged for vinyl covered chipboard nasties.
